Sophie & James had an absolutely epic wedding at the beautiful St Audries Park in the Quantock Hills in Somerset… and I mean epic! They went all out for their big day with military dress, a sword arch, confetti (three times including the canons on the dancefloor!), a 3 course meal, sparklers and fireworks! As you can imagine, packing that much into one day takes military precision which fortunately James (an army officer) has in spades. Both he and his beautiful bride Sophie were an utter treat to work with and it was obvious throughout the day how well respected and loved they are by all their friends and family. The experience of shooting a wedding on a relational level is often facinating in fact. Other than a few emails, a phone call or brief meeting it’s hard to really get to know a couple before their wedding day. Then on the day itself their personalities quickly and deeply unfold and it’s a lovely thing to witness and be part of. The love between various people, the sad stories of those that couldn’t make it, the giddy excitement, the tears, the nervous energy… Then of course all those stories throughout the day (and particularly in the speeches) about silly things they’ve done, the brave things they’ve done, the things they’ve accomplished, how they met and fell in love and where their lives are heading. I honestly feel sometimes that by the end of a wedding I know the couple on a deeper level than I know many of the people I interact with daily. If we can leave a wedding feeling like we’ve somehow bottled up who the couple really are, how they feel and how they fit into eachothers worlds with a series of photographs, then as far as I’m concerned we’re doing what we set out to do. Here’s to Sophie and James. You don’t really know us, but we are honoured to have known you.
